One of my best friends just bought a house; she just happens to love bright colors and pineapples…well, look what I have here. 🙂 I’ve been experimenting with different types of backgrounds and this card is no exception. The tricky part is not letting a background this bright detract from the focal point of the card.
The background was made using a stamp by Simon Says Stamp called ‘Doodle Background’. I stamped the image using Versamark ink, covered it in white embossing powder, then heat set it. Taking Distress inks in abandoned coral, worn lipstick and spiced marmalade I used an ink blending tool to lay down each color using a circular motion.
The focal point of the card is this lovely pineapple by Avery Elle. It is a good size, roughly 2″x3, and when coloring the pineapple I was looking for colors equal in saturation and not of the same hue to ensure it would stand out. I shaded the pineapple using copic markers in the YG, G, Y, and E families. For the sentiment I die cut ‘congrats’ using an Ellen Hutson die multiple times and layered them together with glue. To ensure the sentiment stood out I did several things: first I covered the sentiment in glossy accents, second I balled up gold thread to place behind the pineapple, and last, I placed a strip of vellum behind my image.
Thank you for stopping by and I hope you enjoyed my card! Please feel free to leave comments if there is something you’d like to see!
